Why we need you…

Ronald McDonald House, Bristol is an independent charity which provides Home from Home accommodation, free of charge, to the families of critically ill children receiving care at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. We simply can’t do this without the help of our fundraisers and the people who donate their time and money to support us.

Types of opportunities available:
Casual/ One-off
Events
We are a very small team of staff and are always in need of extra hands at our events. We have a calendar of events through the year to sign up to and your role will be dependent on the nature of the event. You may be shaking a tin in a shopping mall, watching a competition hole in a golfing competition, or giving our registration packs at a bungee jumping extravaganza. If you sign up to our event volunteering network, we will call upon you as and when the needs arise and you can let us know if you are able to help.
Community Action Day
We run a 16 bedroomed House, with several large communal areas and a good-sized, landscaped garden. This means there is always scope for repairs, renovation, maintenance, tidying and cleaning. In order to keep our running costs to a minimum, we rely heavily on volunteers to help us keep on top of this work. We welcome teams of people who would be willing to spend a day working on a particular project- such as the up-keep of the garden, or ‘spring cleaning’ the stock rooms. We will work with you to design a team day that will be enjoyable for everyone and of great value to the charity.
Ongoing Roles
When a child is very ill, they may need to travel away from home to receive the treatment that they require. Our aim is to keep families together during what is probably one of the most stressful times of their lives. We accommodate over 800 families each year, providing all the comforts that you would expect to find in your own home, with spacious en-suite bedrooms, kitchens and communal living areas.

The primary requirement for taking on any voluntary role at RMH Bristol is to believe in the work we do here and show a genuine interest in contributing to the cause. We are seeking skilled individuals who would be willing to commit to a role in any of the following areas:

• Gardening
• Maintenance
• House-keeping

Some roles will require a greater time-commitment than others.
Student Volunteering Opportunities:
We love students!
Students are often mis-represented as being a tiny bit selfish, lazy and strapped-for-cash. We know this is often far from the truth, and that actually many students have an incredible amount of drive and want to feel a part of something significant! This is why we want to help channel that amazing energy and enthusiasm into doing something significant for the 800 families we help every year through their hardest times. If you’re a student with a heart for a good cause, there are many ways to link up with RMH Bristol- a local, friendly charity that welcomes your support.
As well as the above opportunities, we also have the following placements especially for students:
